Welding Engineer

Location: Farr West, UT

Job Summary
Prepares, qualifies, and maintains welding procedures, procedure qualification records, and welder performance qualifications. Monitors welding to ensure proper and efficient operation.

Essential Functions

  • Review contract requirements and prepare necessary welding procedure specifications, qualification records, and welder performance qualifications, which may require customer approval.
  • Coordinate qualification and consumable testing with internal and/or external sources as required.
  • Maintain welder continuity records.
  • Train welding personnel for proper procedure execution and qualifications.
  • Monitor welding operations to ensure proper application of procedures and qualifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Assist in troubleshooting welding problems.
  • Stay updated with current technology, equipment, and materials; implement improvements.
  • Create procedures for post-weld heat treatments and review related charts to meet requirements.
  • Write technical justifications and responses to customer questions or concerns.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in standard office software.
  • Practical knowledge of fabrication techniques and equipment.
  • Familiarity with inspection and NDE processes.
  • Knowledge of arc welding processes and quality standards.
  • Understanding of fabrication codes and standards (ASME, AWS, NAVSEA/MIL-STD).
  • Ability to produce technical documentation.
  • Teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of automated welding and proficiency in 3D modeling software (e.g., Solidworks) are a plus.

Minimum Requirements

  • Four-year degree in welding engineering/technology or equivalent; welding experience may substitute.
  • At least four years of welding engineering experience in fabrication, working with codes, standards, and documentation.

Essential Mental Functions

Proactive evaluation of quality conditions, diplomatic interaction with employees and customers.

Essential Physical Functions

Ability to work in a fabrication environment, perform inspections, and climb on parts and machinery.

Safety Requirements

  • No significant safety risks posed to oneself or others.
  • Commitment to safety laws and policies; report violations.
