Job description

Overview

* This position is located in Philadelphia, PA.*

The successful candidate will contribute to the oversight of welding activities conducted at specific Electric Boat Suppliers and distributed manufacturing facilities. This individual will serve as one of the lead regional welding engineers for Strategically Outsourced components and will be stationed at Electric Boat’s Philadelphia, PA facility. This high-visibility position will provide technical guidance and welding expertise for both Nuclear and Non-nuclear applications as necessary. Primary responsibilities include ensuring welders adhere to policies and procedures, reviewing and monitoring welding onboarding and training programs, providing technical evaluations of welding non-conformances, reviewing supplier welding performance and program documentation for compliance with specifications, and overseeing supplier and Electric Boat welder performance.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and ensuring compliance with fabrication and welding specifications
  • Maintaining company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in welding
  • Providing technical guidance and expertise for construction support and problem resolution
  • Interacting with EB Strategic Sourcing Program Office, Suppliers, EB Engineering, EB Supplier Quality, EB Quality Assurance Engineering, EB Purchasing, EB Operations, EB COLUMBIA Program Office, EB VIRGINIA Program Office, Newport News Shipbuilding, SUPSHIP Groton, and NAVSEA as required
  • Preparing technical reports resulting from auditing, testing, research and development, and investigations
  • Traveling to alternate suppliers and Electric Boat facilities approximately 30% of the year
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering
  • 4+ years of professional engineering experience

Preferred:

  • Understanding of welding metallurgy fundamentals
  • Experience with commercial or military welding specifications
  • Experience in industrial welding environments, shipbuilding, or heavy fabrication
  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint (or equivalent)
Skills
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret specifications, procedures, reports, drawings, and other documents effectively
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective information transfer
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills for evaluating situations, making recommendations, and taking prompt action
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to investigate problems, ask questions, extract data, and collaborate to determine root causes and solutions
