Job summary

Pennant, Inc. welds metal components for appliance parts and similar products. This role involves setting the TIG welder to the proper temperature and guiding the electrode along weld lines to achieve the required fusion and bead size.

Required is a one-year welding certificate or six months of related experience, plus prior TIG welding experience. Meticulous safety practices and ability to read operating instructions are essential.

Qualifications

  • One year certificate from college or technical school in welding field; or six months related experience and/or training.
  • Candidate MUST HAVE prior TIG welding experience.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains specified gage wire and sets TIG welder to proper temperature based on type and guage of metal being welded.
  • Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
  • Welds in vertical position.
  • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
  • Cleans weld joint or workpiece.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
  • Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
  • Positions and clamps workpieces together or assembles them in jig or fixture.
  • Fills metal part corners to customer specifications.
  • Follows all safety and quality policies and procedures.

Education and/or Experience
  • One year certificate from college or technical school in welding field; or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidate MUST HAVE prior TIG welding experience.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before employees or supervisors of organization.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
