Job Description
FUNCTION DESCRIPTION:
- Welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products, according to blueprints or work orders, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding techniques.
- Welds metal parts together using both gas welding and any combination of arc welding processes.
- Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and adjusts sizes of metal parts; clamps components of fabricated metal products.
- Must be able to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet weld requirements.
- Performs own fitting and grinding of assembly parts, as required.
- Reads blueprints and fabricates from them; performs basic shop math; reads measurement tools; communicates effectively.
- Requires good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Position involves standing, lifting, reaching, carrying, sitting, and crouching.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate arc or gas welding equipment along with atmospheric control equipment for hand welding in all positions to meet specifications for mechanical strength on diverse components and assemblies made of steel, stainless steel, or other metals.
- Secure parts in position using blocking, clamping, or holding to prevent distortion.
- Operate welding machines, regulating current and voltage for proper metal fusion, and control pressures and gas flows.
