Overview

Are you a Welder or have welding training and are looking for an opportunity to advance your career? Be part of a team that takes pride in building the world's most advanced submarines. This position utilizes state-of-the-art robotic systems to support the New Columbia Class submarines.

Robotic Welders are competent welders whose mission is assembling the massive tubes that will hold Columbia's intercontinental ballistic missiles. This position will provide training to operate and program robotic welding machines for accurate cutting, beveling, and welding of missile tubes.

The tubes are grouped in a "quad Pack" to assemble the Common Missile Section. Once assembled, the section is joined with additional quad packs and outfitted with decks, systems, and other equipment, forming a complete missile compartment. Four CMCs join to create a 16-tube capacity, all brought together by robotic welding machines.

Individuals with mechanized welding, UT/RT, CAD/CAM, CNC experience are encouraged to apply; training will be provided. The training lasts up to 6 months on the 1st shift, covering hand, mechanized, mirror, and robot welding. Afterward, permanent shift placement is assigned.

This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.

Qualifications
Required:
  • High school diploma/GED or at least 2 years related technical experience
  • Welding experience in GMAW, SMAW, or equivalent (fabrication/fitting/CAD/CAM, CNC, etc.)
  • Mechanical and computer inclination, capable of interpreting robotic programs, manuals, procedures, and drawings
  • Availability to work all shifts / modified work week
  • Ability to work at heights, confined spaces, and extreme temperatures
  • Ability to lift some weight and operate impact guns and high torque machinery
  • Basic math skills
  • Own basic hand tools
Preferred:
  • Structural or Pipe RT Hand welding experience
  • CAD/CAM training
  • Electric Boat Apprentice
  • Robotic system training
  • Mechanized or Track welding, UT / RT welding experience
  • Experience in programming or automation
  • Proficiency with PC, Windows-based systems
  • Knowledge of Robotic System Operation
  • Fabrication and manufacturing practices per EB standards
  • Shipfitting / Ship building experience
  • Understanding of NDT acceptance criteria for structural components
  • Lifting and handling experience
  • Knowledge of Military and NAVSEA codes and specifications
