Job summary

Speedway Motors Inc is seeking a hands-on Welder for our Lincoln, NE machine shop. You will perform MIG and TIG welding, read blueprints, and finish welds to meet strict quality standards in a 75,000+ sq. ft. facility.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in technology or welding preferred with a minimum of 1 year of related experience.
  • Must be knowledgeable in welding symbols and able to read blueprints and technical manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform smooth high-quality MIG and TIG welding with proper setup parameters for various materials.
  • Read blueprints including welding symbols and specifications.
  • Finish welds and perform grinding to smooth surfaces and remove burrs.
  • Use metal fabrication equipment to cut, form and fabricate parts as needed.
  • Operate measuring tools (micrometers, jigs, miters) to ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Follow safety procedures and wear PPE at all times.
  • Maintain attendance and assist with productivity improvements.

Job overview

In this role,you’lluse MIG and TIG welding techniques to bring our designs to life, working with a variety of materials and metal fabrication tools. From reading blueprints to finishing welds, your attention to detail will help ensure everything we produce meets the highest standards.

Here are the specifics:
  • Perform smooth high quality MIG and TIG welding with working knowledge of weld setup parameters forvarious typesof materials
  • Use metal fabrication equipment to fabricate parts that may be needed for welding jobs which may include metal cutting tools, press brakes and any other metal fabrication equipment in the department
  • Use multiple machines to cut material to draw specifications, programing, and maintenance and repairs when needed
  • Use custom and precision measuring instruments including micrometers,jigsand miters to measure dimensions and ensure accuracy of fabricated parts
  • Read blueprints including welding symbols
  • Finish grinding required using manual power tools to smooth weld surfaces – removing burrs, sharpedgesand other imperfections from work piece
  • Useappropriate PPEand follow established safety regulations and procedures
  • Use tools and equipment to manipulate materials including tube benders, drills, presses, grinders, etc.
  • Constantly work to improve processes; make suggestions for productivity improvements, andoptimizeteam member workflow, while continuing to meet our customers’ needs.Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Schedule and Location

First Shift:Monday–Thursday | 6:00AM-4:30PM

Work Environment
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry <50 lbs. and rarely push/pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Occasional walking and standing.
  • Rare bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting.
  • Occasional work above shoulder level and reach.
  • Frequent pinching, grasping, fine manipulation with fingers and must be able to use power tools.
  • Is knowledgeable in the procedures and safety measures in area(s) of specialty. Familiar with a variety of thefield'sconcepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Occasional exposure to dust, dirt, steam, fumes-vaporand chemicals.
  • Heated and air‑conditioned indoor work as well as rare outdoor activities in varying weather conditions.
  • Frequent exposureto movingmechanical parts.
Whatyou’llneed to succeed in this position:
  • Associates degree in technologyor welding preferred with a minimum of 1 year of related experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be knowledgeable in welding symbols, able to read technical manuals,blueprintsand various documents.
  • Knowledgeable in the procedures and safety measures in area(s) of machine shop/welding operations and familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable ofwire and filler material applications for mild steel alloys,aluminumand other non-ferrous materials; working knowledge of weld setup parameters (amps, volts, currents).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external individuals.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • All‑encompassing machine shop skills and experience preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skillsrequired.
