Job Summary
Performs mechanical tasks throughout the plant and quarry, including welding equipment and machinery repairs, as well as constructing new structures necessary for plant operations. Collaborates daily with operations teams, ensuring work activities are performed accurately and timely, as each task is crucial for overall operation.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform welding using electric, acetylene, and arc-air equipment, evaluating and coordinating welding needs and repairs.
- Select and identify appropriate metals and equipment, including mechanical parts.
- Create and interpret sketches and drawings.
- Perform pipefitting with welded joints or connections.
- Carry out steel structural work on buildings.
- Perform maintenance modifications, cut, and layout work.
- Assist with emergency repairs across the plant and quarry.
- Use precision instruments, hand tools, and wrenches effectively.
- Maintain and repair welding equipment as needed.
- Inspect equipment for malfunctions and perform necessary repairs.
- Support maintenance personnel during repairs and erection of metal structures.
- Keep maintenance records updated.
- Prevent damage to machinery, tools, and materials.
- Lead repair welders during jobs and oversee work of other maintenance staff.
- Coordinate and supervise work of other personnel.
- Maintain good housekeeping in work areas.
- Replace or assist other workers as needed.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and skills to perform essential job functions, with or without accommodations.
- Minimum 3 years of welding experience.
- At least 3 years of industry-related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to understand and follow complex instructions and solve problems based on experience.
- Good mathematical skills, including basic math, fractions, and conversions.
- Proficiency in English reading comprehension for technical manuals and safety instructions.
- Effective communication with team members and external contractors.
- Operation of standard and automatic welding and mechanic tools.
- Ability to read mechanical, electrical, and structural drawings.
- Knowledge of metals, electrodes, and welding techniques.
- Willingness to undergo additional training and develop skills for future growth.
- High attentiveness and physical coordination for safety and efficiency.
Working Conditions
- Approximately 80% outdoor work, subject to weather conditions.
Physical Requirements
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 75 pounds regularly.
- Ability to detect safety hazards and respond appropriately.
- Frequent walking, sitting, lifting, and climbing.
- Performing heavy work up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Communicating effectively in noisy environments.
- Perform all necessary physical activities related to job functions.
