Position Summary:
The successful candidate in this dual role as a Machinist / Welder at Atlantic Precision Inc produces machined aerospace parts through programming, setting up and operating the machine; following quality and safety standards; keeping records; and maintaining equipment and supplies. Additionally, as an aerospace TIG welder, the person in this role plans, schedules, conducts and performs the fabrication of various metal assemblies using various welding equipment and associated machinery necessary for the cutting, bending, forming and sizing of the assembly.
Role requires the ability to obtain a Secret clearance or higher, due to the nature of work API performs.
This is a first shift / hourly / non-exempt position.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Machinist
- Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters. Interprets geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Programs mills or lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches, calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry, proving part programs.
- Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers, indicating vices, tramming heads.
- Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
- Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces; adhering to international standards.
- Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
- Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Other duties as assigned.
TIG Welder
- Maintaining the welding equipment and welding supplies.
- Maintaining the weld fixtures and tooling.
- Keeping the weld area clean and orderly.
- Assembles details for the applicable weld process.
- Within the scope of the job requirements, will be required to adhere to and comply with state and federal law, the Company ISO Quality Program and procedures, Company policy and Safety and Environmental Regulations.

TIG Welder
- Competent skill level with the GTAW, GMAW, SMAW welding methods.
- Operation of oxy-acetylene and plasma arc equipment.
- Must possess basic math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometry and algebra for the purpose of calculating material fabrication.
- Competency with measuring equipment (micrometers, dial caliper, height gage, tape measure, etc.)
- Must be able to follow written or verbal instructions.
- Must have a strong understanding of how to interpret blueprints, welding specifications and procedures.
- Capable of operating a fork lift and lifting equipment.
- Ability to work within a collaborative team structure by having a positive attitude.
- Capable of lifting/moving 35 pounds
Experience and Education:
- U.S. Person status
- GED or High School diploma preferred but not required
- At least 3 years of relevant experience
- Aerospace experience a plus.
- Successful eye examination in accordance with AWS D17.1 requirements
