Job summary

Aerotek in Alma, MI is seeking skilled MIG welders to join a fast-paced fabrication team. You will interpret blueprints, set up welding equipment, and produce high-quality welds on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

The role covers FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, SMAW with emphasis on at least one method; you will read blueprints, follow Welding Procedure Specifications, and work on diverse project-based tasks in a large facility.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of MIG (GMAW) and/or Flux Core (FCAW) welding experience.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints.
  • Strong understanding of main welding processes including FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, and SMAW.
  • Ability to set parameters on welding machines and interpret Welding Procedure Specifications with guidance.
  • Proficiency in using oxy-fuel, plasma arc, and carbon arc cutting equipment.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions from a department supervisor.
  • Capability to learn and adapt to new welding techniques.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform frequent bending, stooping, and twisting.
  • Ownership of a weld helmet and steel toe boots.
  • High School Diploma.

  • Follow written and verbal instructions from the department supervisor to complete assigned work accurately and on schedule.
  • Adapt and learn new welding techniques and processes as needed to support a wide variety of project-based work.
  • Handle and position materials and components, including lifting up to 50 lbs. and performing frequent bending, stooping, and twisting.
  • Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work area in safe, orderly condition and report any issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of fabrication projects.

Job Description

We are seeking skilled MIG welders to add to our growing team! This role focuses on performing high-quality welding using a variety of processes in a fast-paced fabrication environment. You will interpret blueprints, set up and operate welding equipment, and produce structurally sound welds on ferrous and non-ferrous metal products. The position includes opportunities to work on diverse, project-based work and to grow into more advanced technical welding responsibilities.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large fabrication facility specializing in ferrous and non-ferrous metal products, supporting a wide range of project-based work such as fabrication and painting of train cars and fabrication of complex launch racks. The production floor stays relatively warm in the winter and can be hot during the summer months, so you should be comfortable working in varying temperatures. The facility is clean and very well lit, creating a safe and efficient workspace. Day shift hours are 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (five 10-hour shifts), and night shift hours are 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday (four 12-hour shifts). Steel toe boots and a weld helmet are required as part of the standard attire for this environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Alma, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
