Job summary

United Launch Alliance, LLC. seeks a Weld Engineering Intern to gain hands‑on experience in welding process improvement and support broader hardware development at their Decatur, AL site.

You will work under experienced engineers and participate in projects spanning production, quality, and systems engineering. Ideal candidates are actively pursuing a STEM degree, plan to enroll in Fall 2027, and have a 3.0+ GPA.

Qualifications

Job Overview & Responsibilities

As a Weld Engineering Intern at United Launch Alliance you'll gain hands‑on experience and will have the opportunity to:

• Welding Process Improvement, including machine modifications, tooling, procedure development.
• Using production and quality data and welding history to make business cases to support improvements.
• Utilize weld knowledge to assist in the design and development of future hardware, tests, systems engineering, mission integration, quality assurance, system safety, launch operations and production operations.
• Activities can include but are not limited to: weld quality data analysis, analysis methodology improvement projects, trade studies, design for manufacturer studies, creating or modifying tool designs, processing cause and corrective actions for non-conformances, maintain production work instructions, supplier management, and component or integrated systems test.
• Support one or more experienced engineers in performance of assignments, spend time shadowing actual operations, and have unique assignments that support larger projects as well as experience the day-to-day workings of engineering.

Interns may perform and/or participate in additional activities/events which help them build a strong network within the ULA community and with fellow interns!

Required Education

At minimum completed Sophomoreyear of college or university by the time of the summer internship assignment.

• High School/GED

Basic Qualifications

• Must have a minimum college GPA of 3.0 on a 4.00 scale at the time of application; cumulative, no rounding. NOTE: An unofficial transcript is required if you are invited for an interview. We recommend you upload it to your profile when you apply.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and motorized vehicle transportation if assigned an internship in Alabama; California; Florida; or Pueblo, Colorado. For Denver, Colorado and Washington, DC, motorized transportation is recommended.

Role Specific Qualifications

• At minimum, actively pursuing a degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field from an accredited college or university. Preferred is a degree in Weld Engineering or Weld Engineering Technology.
• Must have plans to be enrolled in classes during Fall Semester 2027.
• Ability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer of 2027.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
• Effective presentation, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
• Must be able to complete an internship at any of the below ULA's locations:
  • Decatur, AL
