ABOUT BUILDING BRIDGES ACROSS THE RIVER (www.bbardc.org)

Building Bridges Across the River (Building Bridges) provides residents East of the Anacostia River access to the best-in-class facilities, programs and partnerships in arts and culture, economic opportunity, education, recreation, health, and well-being. Building Bridges envisions a future in which the residents East of the Anacostia River experience vital, thriving communities characterized by social, cultural, economic, and racial equity. In order to combat past and current structural inequities, Building Bridges develops and manages facilities and programs in Wards 7 and 8 including the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC), Building Bridges Farms, THEARC Theater, 11th Street Bridge Park, and Skyland Workforce Center. In 2005, Building Bridges first facility was THEARC at 110,000 square feet and since then, has grown to 203,000 square feet, representing the largest social service, multisector, nonprofit collaboration in the country.

Led by President, Rahsaan Bernard, and championed by a high-profile, engaged Board of Directors, Building Bridges is well-positioned to continue its efforts to build bridges of opportunity and community.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Welcome Desk Ambassador/Concierge is responsible for the lasting first impression of Building Bridges Across the River through an exceptional customer service-oriented approach and clear communication. This position supports all departments of Building Bridges, partners, and visitors.

Building Bridges is looking for a pleasant Welcome Desk Ambassador/Concierge to undertake all receptionist and clerical duties at the desk of all of Building Bridges campuses. This candidate will be the "face" of the organization for all visitors and will be responsible for the first impression we make. The goal is to make guests and visitors feel comfortable and valued while on our premises.

The ideal candidate will have a friendly and easy-going personality while also being very perceptive and disciplined. Candidate should be able to properly handle and manage complaints and give accurate information. Building Bridges is looking for someone who can work mornings, evenings and weekends as well as rotate between the Campus’.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet and welcome guests. Deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Observe the daily activity of campus lobbies and surrounding areas. Pleasantly implement organization and campus policies to ensure a safe and family friendly environment.
  • Ensure marquee/Display Screens is functioning daily.
  • Keep the front desk clean, neat, and organized with all necessary materials (pens, forms, paper, sticky notes etc.)
  • Ensure the Welcome Desk guidebook is up to date with current information.
  • Maintain Welcome Desk advertisements. Ensure all literature is current.
  • Monitor office and pantry supplies and inform Operations Manager when the volume is low.
  • Answer questions and address minor complaints from Partners and visitors.
  • Answer all incoming calls and redirect them accordingly/relay messages.
  • Receive, filter, and distribute Building Bridges and Partners' mail, packages etc.
  • Check all ID's for visitors entering the building.
  • Log incoming packages on the daily package log.
  • Able to direct visitors to appropriate department representatives or partners.
  • Maintain clear communication with Partners and Staff.
  • Attend monthly partner meetings and record upcoming news/events.
  • Edit THEARC Partner Portal with all updated information about events, Building Bridges and Partner Staff.
  • Check the events calendar daily. Support Maintenance & Theater team to make sure all event setup needs are completed.
  • Disseminate campus information to Partners and Staff accordingly.
  • Clearly communicate all notable information during shift transitions.
  • Ensure incident reports are accurately submitted through the link and reported in a timely manner.
  • Take up other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience as customer service representative, front desk representative, agent, or relevant position
  • Familiarity with office machines (e.g., fax, printer etc.)
  • Proficient in English (oral and written)
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel and Word)
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Good organizational and multi-tasking abilities
  • Problem-solving skills
  • High School diploma; additional qualifications will be a plus
  • Must be flexible to work events and nights and weekends. Schedules are not static.
