Job summary

City of Methuen is seeking a qualified individual to serve as Sealer of Weights and Measures. Responsibilities include inspecting and sealing weighing devices, testing for accuracy, and addressing mispricing issues. Fieldwork with some indoor office duties is required.

A high school diploma is required, MA certification or ability to obtain within a year, and a valid driver’s license. Bilingual candidates are desired. Closing date: 2026-11-16.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Certification as Sealer of Weights and Measures in MA or ability to obtain within one year.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
• Knowledge of state/municipal weights and measures regulations; familiarity with weighing devices.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, calibrate, and seal commercial weighing and measuring devices.
• Inspect scales, dispensers, meters, scanners and other devices for accuracy and compliance.
• Investigate complaints of short weights, measures, and counts; issue warnings or fines as appropriate.
• Perform fieldwork at local businesses and occasional office work; may work indoors/outdoors in varying weather.
• Enforce laws fairly, maintain accurate records, and communicate with businesses and the public.
