Job summary

Allen County War Memorial Coliseum seeks a Weights and Measures Deputy Inspector to conduct inspections of weighing and measuring devices within Fort Wayne and Allen County. You will enforce ordinances, perform on-site testing, and maintain detailed records with proprietor signatures.

You will respond to public inquiries, review labels, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Must hold a valid Indiana driver’s license and pass required certifications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and at least one year of inspection field experience.
• Pass written test for approval and appointment by the State as Inspector of Weights and Measures.
• Ability to obtain appointments as Inspector through the Board of Public Safety.
• Ability to obtain a Police Commission through the Board of Public Safety.
• Valid Indiana Driver’s License to operate county vehicles and perform inspections.
• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local rules concerning weights and measures.
• Practical knowledge of scales, sensitivity, and test procedures for devices.
• Ability to read scales, scanners, and labels.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office and related software.

Responsibilities

• Enforces local ordinances and issues citations for Weights and Measures violations.
• Performs on-site inspections and testing of weighing, measuring, and timing devices at various sites.
• Maintains accurate inspection records and reports with signatures.
• Responds to complaints and inspection requests and verifies violations on-site.
• Performs random checks of pre-packaged goods and verifies weights and labels.
• Understands and applies state and local W&M laws.
• Maintains inspection equipment and coordinates maintenance/repairs.
• Prepare letters, memos, and reports as needed.
• Attend required trainings and seminars.
• Performs other duties, including overtime, as assigned.
