Job summary

The City and County of San Francisco’s Department of Public Health invites applications for the Inspector of Weights and Measures (6220). Under general supervision, you will inspect and test weighing and measuring devices, pre-packaged goods, and petroleum products to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.

This full-time civil service role requires physical stamina and the ability to communicate findings clearly.

Qualifications

• Two of the three valid County Weights and Measures Inspector Licenses are required (Measurement Verification License; Transaction and Product Verification License; and a third license).
• Possession of a valid California Driver License.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and tests weighing and measuring devices, petroleum products, and packaged commodities for labeled content and retail price verification inspections.
• Explains applicable laws, policies, rules and regulations to employees, businesses, and the public.
• Maintains records and prepares reports on inspection activities.
• Writes daily inspection reports and investigative reports as required by law.
