Under the direction of the Weights and Measures Director, The Weights and Measures Deputy Inspector conduct inspections of all weighing and measuring devices and all commodities offered for sale by weight and measure within Allen County and the City of Fort Wayne limits. This position is Covered as defined by the Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen Employee Handbook.
The Weights and Measures Deputy Inspector perform repetitive work, restricted in scope but of substantial intricacy when performing regular on-site testing of all weighing, measuring, and timing devices. Judgment is needed in selecting the most pertinent guidelines, in interpreting precedents, and in adapting standard formulas, methods, or procedures when enforcing local ordinances and issuing citations and fines.
The Weights and Measures Deputy Inspector provide substantial contributions involving non-routine decisions and recommendations when performing random checks of pre-packaged goods, weighing packages to verify reported weight, checking tare allowances, and reviewing labels to assure complete and accurate compliance. Purpose and desired results indicated and anticipated unusual problems discussed. Deviations from guidelines must be referred to the supervisor.
The Weights and Measures Deputy Inspector maintain frequent contact with other County employees, government and law enforcement officials, business owners, and the public when giving enforcing state codes governing weights and measures

Ability to obtain and maintain appointments as Inspector of Weights and Measures through the Board of Public Safety
Ability to obtain special Police Commission through the Board of Public Safety
Valid Indiana Driver’s License to operate County vehicles and perform on-site inspections
