Job summary

Covenant House New Orleans is seeking a Youth Engagement Specialist to provide trauma-informed support to youth experiencing homelessness. This Part-Time Weekend Mid Shift (1 PM–7 PM) role focuses on building trusting relationships, life skills development, and access to housing, education, employment, and healthcare services.

The YES collaborates with staff and partners to promote stability, independence, and self-sufficiency.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Valid driver's license is required.
• At least 1 year of experience working with youth or in related human services fields.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays.
• Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships with youth through respectful, supportive interactions.
• Apply trauma-informed practices to engage youth non-judgmentally.
• Create a safe, welcoming environment that promotes belonging and stability.
• Encourage participation in education, recreation, and life skills activities.
• Model professional communication and behavior at all times.
• Monitor youth activities and maintain a safe environment.
• Help youth develop personal care and independent living skills.
• Support youth in completing household responsibilities and responsibilities.
• Assist youth in accessing housing, education, employment, healthcare, and mental health services.
• Coordinate referrals to housing, employment, healthcare, education, and support services.
• Provide life skills coaching including financial literacy and job readiness.
• Ensure equitable access to services and maintain confidentiality.
