West Hills Animal Hospital & Emergency Center in Huntington, NY is seeking an experienced Weekend Veterinary Assistant for a part-time role. You’ll join a busy 24-hour hospital with weekend shifts Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 AM–5:30 PM, supporting doctors, technicians, and caregivers in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include caring for special needs animals, restraining pets, preparing surgical materials, administering medications, and assisting with ER protocols.

Qualifications

• 1 year of general practice or emergency veterinary experience.
• Able to stand, lift and perform duties for 8 hours.
• Must have own transportation.
• Able to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced setting.
• Care about animals and compassionate patient care.
• Willing to learn and grow professionally.

Responsibilities

• Caring for special needs animals such as diabetics, geriatrics, and epileptics.
• Restraining a variety of dogs, cats, and exotics for doctors/techs.
• Cleaning cages, surgical areas and equipment daily.
• Administering oral medications as directed.
• Documenting general well-being of in-hospital patients.
• Assisting with ER protocol; prepping ER table for emergencies.
• Preparing surgical materials per handbook; ensuring sterility.
• Assisting LVTs with TPRs and blood pressures; checking incisions.
• Triaging emergency appointments with ER doctor on-site.
• Capturing radiographs including thorax and abdomen views.

We're currently hiring for Part-Time Weekend positions.

• Saturday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM
• Sunday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Caring for special needs borders such as diabetics, geriatrics, epileptics, etc.
• Restraining a variety of canine, feline, and exotic species for the doctors and technicians
• Cleaning (Sweeping, Mopping, cages, dishes, garbage, surgical site, dental Suite, etc.)
• Administering oral medications
• Documentation of general well-being of in-hospital patients and boarders
• Assisting with Er protocol, ensuring ER table is prepared for crashing patients
• Preparing surgical material in coordination with the surgical handbook (ensure materials are sterilized and prepared for procedures)
• Assisting LVTs with TPRs & blood pressures. examining incisions for cleanliness and closure
• Triaging emergency appointments in coordination with the ER doctor on-premises.
• Capturing various types of radiographs including but not limited to the thorax and abdominal views

• Ability to write neatly, communicate well with others, attend staff meetings, and adhere to training programs
• Own transportation
