Job summary

West Hills Animal Hospital in Huntington, NY is seeking an experienced Weekend Veterinary Assistant to join our busy 24-hour team. This part-time role requires compassion, reliability, and the ability to support doctors and technicians during fast-paced shifts on Saturdays and Sundays.

You will care for patients, restrain animals, assist with ER protocols, prepare surgical materials, take radiographs, and document patient well-being.

Qualifications

• 1 year of general practice or emergency veterinary experience.
• Must be able to stand, lift, and work for a minimum of 8 hours.
• Own transportation required.

Responsibilities

• Caring for patients with special needs such as diabetics, geriatrics, epileptics, etc.
• Restraining a variety of canine, feline, and exotic species for doctors and technicians.
• Cleaning (sweeping, mopping, cages, dishes, garbage, surgical area, dental suite, etc.).
• Administering oral medications.
• Documentation of general well-being of in-hospital patients and boarders.
• Assisting with ER protocol, ensuring ER table is prepared for crashing patients.
• Preparing surgical materials in coordination with the surgical handbook (sterilization and preparation).
• Assisting LVTs with TPRs and blood pressures; examining incisions for cleanliness and closure.
• Triaging emergency appointments in coordination with the ER doctor on-premises.
• Capturing radiographs including thorax and abdominal views.

We're currently hiring for Part-Time Weekend positions.

• Saturday: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM
• Sunday: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Caring for special needs borders such as diabetics, geriatrics, epileptics, etc.
• Restraining a variety of canine, feline, and exotic species for the doctors and technicians
