West Hills Animal Hospital in Huntington, NY is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Assistant for part-time weekend shifts at a busy 24-hour facility. You’ll join a dedicated team to care for canine, feline, and exotic patients while supporting doctors and technicians.

Responsibilities include patient restraint, medication administration, medical record-keeping, ER support, surgical material prep, radiograph support, and routine administrative duties. Own transportation required.

Qualifications

• Experienced veterinary assistants preferred or 1 year in general practice or emergency veterinary setting.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced hospital and handle multiple tasks.
• Willingness to learn and advance within the clinic.

Responsibilities

• Caring for special needs patients and diabetics, geriatrics, epilepsy etc.
• Restrain dogs, cats and exotic species for doctors and technicians.
• Clean and maintain cages, kennels, cages, and surgical areas.
• Administer oral medications to patients.
• Document general well-being of in-hospital patients and boarders.
• Assist with ER protocol and prepare ER table for emergencies.
• Prepare surgical materials with sterilized supplies per handbook.
• Assist LVTs with vital signs and wound checks.
• Triaging emergency appointments with ER doctor on duty.
• Capture radiographs including thorax and abdomen.

Join Our Amazing Team as Our Newest Veterinary Assistant! At West Hills Animal Hospital, we’re looking for compassionate, experienced individuals who love furry friends just as much as we do. As a Veterinary Assistant, you’ll build meaningful relationships not only with our patients but also with the clients who trust us with their pets’ care. You’ll work alongside a supportive team in a fast-paced environment where you’ll have opportunities to grow your skills and advance your career—from becoming a veterinary technician to exploring specialty medicine and future leadership opportunities.

We’re currently hiring for Part-Time Weekend positions.

Open Shifts

• Saturday: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM


• Sunday: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Caring for special needs borders such as diabetics, geriatrics, epileptics, etc.


• Restraining a variety of canine, feline, and exotic species for the doctors and technicians


• Cleaning (Sweeping, Mopping, cages, dishes, garbage, surgical site, dental Suite, etc.)


• Administering oral medications


• Documentation of general well-being of in-hospital patients and boarders


• Assisting with Er protocol, ensuring ER table is prepared for crashing patients


• Preparing surgical material in coordination with the surgical handbook (ensure materials are sterilized and prepared for procedures)


• Assisting LVTs with TPRs & blood pressures. examining incisions for cleanliness and closure


• Triaging emergency appointments in coordination with the ER doctor on-premises.


• Capturing various types of radiographs including but not limited to the thorax and abdominal views

• 1 year of general practice or emergency veterinary experience


• Must be able to stand, lift, and do work duties for a minimum of 8 hours


• Lifting of large boxes, dog food, and a variety of canine and feline species up to 50 lbs.


• Ability to write neatly, communicate well with others, attend staff meetings, and adhere to training programs


• Own transportation
