Maru Plus Japanese Restaurant in Tucson, AZ is seeking a talented Sushi Chef to join our team on weekends. Bring artistry and precision to the kitchen, crafting high-quality sushi, sashimi, and Japanese creations that delight guests.

You will manage sushi rice preparation, knife work, fish handling, and work with the team to ensure timely service, seasonal specials, and a memorable dining experience for every guest. Flexible weekend availability is required.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Sushi Chef or in a similar Japanese culinary role.
• Proficiency in sushi rice preparation, knife skills, and traditional Japanese techniques.
• Strong knowledge of fish butchery, seafood handling, and safe raw food preparation.
• Valid food handler's certificate or ability to obtain one upon hire.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and present a variety of sushi, sashimi, and Japanese cuisine to the highest quality standards
• Source, inspect, and handle fresh fish and seafood with proper food safety protocols
• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked sushi bar at all times
• Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure smooth, timely service during all shifts
• Develop and contribute creative ideas for seasonal specials and menu items
• Monitor inventory, minimize waste, and assist with ordering fresh ingredients as needed
• Engage with guests at the sushi bar to deliver an authentic and memorable dining experience
