Job summary

Good Samaritan is seeking a Weekend RN to provide on-call and direct patient care in the New River Valley service area. This role emphasizes compassionate, family-centered hospice nursing with after-hours responsibilities and close collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team.

Qualified candidates will have Virginia RN licensure and at least 2 years of nursing experience in hospice, home health, or acute care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with current Virginia RN licensure.
• Minimum 2 years in nursing, including hospice, home health, med/surg, acute care, or geriatric nursing.
• Experience with EMR documentation and general computer applications.
• Compassionate, professional, patient-centered care.
• Excellent communication and teamwork with the IDT.

Responsibilities

• Provide weekend on-call coverage and respond to patient and caregiver needs.
• Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and admissions as needed.
• Visit patients at home or facility for urgent care as appropriate.
• Document all interactions in the electronic medical record.
• Educate patients and families about hospice philosophy and plan of care.
• Report changes to the Interdisciplinary Team after each shift.
• Support RN Case Managers with after-hours visits to ensure continuity of care.
• Maintain clinical competencies and attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Coordinate with physicians and agencies to optimize patient care.
