Job summary

Good Samaritan Hospice Christiansburg, Virginia, United States seeks a Weekend RN to join our mission-driven team. This on-call role provides weekend hospice nursing to support patients and families and ensure timely care.

The RN will perform assessments, admit when needed, visit homes/facilities, coordinate with the IDT, educate families, document in EMR, and participate in ongoing professional development within our nonprofit, community-based program.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with current Virginia RN licensure.
• Minimum 2 years in nursing, including hospice, home health, med/surg, acute care, or geriatric nursing.
• Strong judgment, problem-solving, and ability to handle complex patient situations.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; able to work collaboratively with the IDT.
• Experience with EMR documentation and general computer applications.
• Provides patient-centered care with empathy, discretion, and integrity.

Responsibilities

• Provide weekend on-call coverage and respond to patient and caregiver calls, crises, and deaths.
• Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and complete admissions as needed.
• Make home or facility visits to address urgent patient care needs and provide direct care when appropriate.
• Communicate effectively with attending physicians, GSH staff, and other agencies to coordinate optimal patient care and resources.
• Educate and support patients and families regarding hospice philosophy, disease progression, symptom management, stages of dying, and the plan of care.
• Collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) by reporting changes in patient status and concerns.
• Assist RN Case Managers with after-hours visits and patient care needs to ensure continuity of care.
• Complete timely and accurate documentation of all patient interactions, visits, assessments, and care provided in the EMR.
• Provide a thorough report to the Interdisciplinary Team following each shift.
• Maintain clinical competencies and participate in required staff meetings, in-services, and continuing education.

What You’ll Do:

What We’re Looking For:

• Clinical Expertise – Graduate of an accredited nursing program with current Virginia RN licensure

Schedule

Weekend Coverage - Saturday - Sunday 8:00am - 8:00pm - Opportunity for FT hours are available

Starting Salary:

$36/hour

This is the starting salary for the position. Compensation may vary within the established salary range based on relevant experience, education, licensure, certifications, and other qualifications.
