Job summary

City of Lakewood, Washington seeks a part-time Recreation Assistant to support weekend and special event recreation programs at Fort Steilacoom Park. The role includes logistics such as signage, setup, parking, vendor access, supplies delivery, and post-event cleanup.

Under supervision, you will assist in scheduling, planning, and implementing programs, provide administrative support, supervise events, and help maintain records and facilities.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent with one year community recreation program experience.
• Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid Washington State driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. First aid/CPR certification required within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Recreation Coordinator in scheduling, planning and implementing recreation programs in various community areas.
• Plan, organize and coordinate a community recreation program for youth including arts, physical activities and classes.
• Lead groups in activities and supervise participants onsite.
• Provide information to instructors and participants regarding schedules and registration requirements.
• Promote recreation activities in the community and distribute promotional materials.
• Maintain records and write program reports.
• Set up and tear down facilities and equipment for classes and events.
• Perform custodial tasks and ensure safety of activities.
• Transport program participants as required by City policy.
• Supervise staff and volunteers as needed.
