Job summary

City of Lakewood is seeking a part-time Recreation Assistant to support weekend and special event programming at Fort Steilacoom Park. The role involves logistics for events, setup and teardown, and basic safety duties under the Recreation Coordinator’s supervision.

You will assist in scheduling, planning and implementing programs, lead youth activities, promote events, and maintain records. Must be 18+, hold a WA driver’s license, and obtain first aid/CPR within six months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with at least 1 year of community-based recreation program experience.
• Must be at least 18 years old with a valid Washington State driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
• First aid/CPR certification required within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in scheduling, planning and implementing recreation programs.
• Plan, organize and coordinate a community recreation program for youth including arts and athletics.
• Lead groups in recreational activities and supervise participants.
• Provide information on program schedules and registration requirements.
• Promote recreation activities and deliver promotional materials.
• Monitor and evaluate recreation programs for safety and effectiveness.
• Maintain attendance records, logs and reports; coordinate facility use and equipment.
