Job summary

Western State Hospital is seeking part-time Psychiatric Care Technicians for 2nd shift with weekend work. Positions require supporting treatment plans, maintaining a safe environment, and assisting with daily activities for patients with complex mental health needs.

Shifts include 7 a.m.–7 p.m. or 7 p.m.–7 a.m., with a minimum of 64 hours per month and holiday coverage. External applicants only. BLS and CNA credentials are valued for this role.

Qualifications

• Ability to provide direct psychiatric patient care under supervision of licensed staff.
• Effective communication with staff and psychiatric patients.
• Work in a secure environment with individuals experiencing acute symptoms.
• Follow instructions and report observations to licensed staff.
• Demonstrate knowledge of recovery/trauma-informed care.
• Appropriately intervene in crisis situations.

Responsibilities

• Take clients’ vital signs and assist with activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Assist with feeding, cleaning, and one-on-one direct observation.
• Serve meals and use de-escalation techniques to manage behavior.
• Work with a 24/7 nursing team and participate in the Learning Center.
