Job summary

Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) seeks part-time Psychiatric Care Technicians for Western State Hospital in Virginia. The role requires weekend availability and certain day/evening shifts with 8/12‑hour options and a 64‑hour minimum per month, plus holiday coverage.

Work under licensed nursing staff within a recovery‑oriented program. Responsibilities include vital signs, ADLs, meals, observation, and de‑escalation within a secure hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Provides direct psychiatric patient care under supervision.
• Effective communication with staff and patients.
• Ability to work in secure environments with acutely ill individuals.
• Report observations to licensed staff in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Take clients’ vital signs.
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Feed, clean, and provide meals.
• Provide one‑on‑one direct observation and supervision.
• Use de‑escalation techniques to manage behavior and milieu.
