Job summary

Western State Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a part‑time role in a 24/7 psychiatric facility. The RN will deliver direct patient care within a safe, therapeutic environment for diverse patient populations, guided by hospital policies and recovery‑oriented care principles.

The successful candidate will work 4/8/12‑hour shifts on weekends, including a Thanksgiving/Christmas‑related holiday commitment, with session‑specific shift differentials.

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license valid in Virginia.
• Ability to delegate and supervise nursing staff.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to work with an interdisciplinary team.
• Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
• Willingness to work overtime during staffing emergencies; may involve longer shifts.

Responsibilities

• Deliver quality care as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Maintain accountability in a secure, therapeutic environment.
• Foster healthy interpersonal interactions on adult acute admissions, geriatric, and extended rehabilitation units.
• Observe and report on interventions, treatments, behaviors, and emotional wellbeing.
• Accurately document patient care and communication in the EHR.
