Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Tech – Weekend to support RN-led care across our units. This role performs basic patient care, vital signs monitoring, and daily living activities while ensuring patient comfort and safety.

Under RN supervision, you will help maintain a clean environment, communicate with families, and assist with admissions, discharges, and census tasks. A High School diploma and CPR-BLS are required; nursing students or CNA/CMA/EMT certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Nursing students who have completed one clinical rotation, or CNA/CMA/EMT certification accepted.
• CPR – Basic Life Support certification required.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic nursing care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose measurements, and recording intake and output.
• Assists patients with personal care and activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming and eating.
• Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Keeps patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
• Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and multi-tasking in stressful situations.
• Uses critical thinking to prioritize and complete unit work as needs change.
• Acts as liaison between patient care units and other departments.
• Answers phones, intercoms, and call lights with professional etiquette and communicates with staff/family/patient.
• Manages unit workflow in collaboration with the charge RN or manager as needed.
• Performs pre-census and validates daily admission/discharge/census lists as needed.
