Trinity Health MercyOne Des Moines Lab Assistant I is a part-time role supporting multiple laboratory departments. The position involves collecting, processing, and reporting tests to ensure timely, accurate results for patient care.

Responsibilities include specimen handling, LIS data entry, and collaboration with laboratory staff to maintain quality and safety standards in a hospital setting. Weekend shifts are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Possess a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 years old.
• MercyOne’s Mandatory Reporter training within 3 months of hire.
• Laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
• Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
• Personable with honesty, integrity, and caring, aligning with Trinity Health and MercyOne values.

Responsibilities

• Supports laboratory departments by assisting technical staff in collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of tests.
• Identifies patients and specimens with two identifiers and labels properly.
• Registers specimens in LIS and ensures documentation is accurate.
• Performs basic specimen processing and documentation per protocols.
• Assists in resolving problematic specimens and test orders with staff and clients.
• Follows safety and chemical-handling procedures and supports efficient workflows.
• Operates LIS to support data entry and workflow management.
• Restocks supplies and participates in department projects as assigned.
