Job summary

MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center is seeking a Lab Assistant to support multiple laboratory departments by assisting technical staff in the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of laboratory tests essential for patient diagnosis and treatment. The role requires accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to quality and safety standards.

Schedule: Monday-Thursday 12:30pm-9pm, rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks as age-appropriate and collects specimens per policy.
• Registers and logs specimens in the LIS and handles add-on orders per procedures.
• Identifies patients and specimens with two identifiers and labels containers accurately.
• Supports general lab operations including restocking supplies and assisting in projects.
