Job summary

In this role, you will play a vital part in shaping how Virginians engage with DHCD’s public website and Intranet. We’re seeking a detail‑oriented professional who is excited about maintaining accessible, user‑friendly, and technically sound digital content. You’ll be responsible for posting and updating materials, ensuring compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 508 standards, and maintaining our agency’s taxonomy, metadata, and formatting requirements.

As a Website Content Specialist, you’ll perform hands‑on document and HTML remediation, apply Search Engine Optimization (SEO) metadata to enhance visibility, and produce monthly analytics and accessibility reports that help guide continuous improvement. This position does not write or edit program content rather it will ensure that materials submitted by staff are accessible, properly structured, and ready for publication across DHCD platforms.

Job Responsibilities

• Publish and update content on DHCD’s external website and Intranet following established workflows and formatting guidelines.
• Ensure posted content aligns with DHCD’s taxonomy, navigation structure, and metadata standards.
• Remediate PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents and perform HTML accessibility fixes to meet WCAG 2.2 AA, ADA, and Section 508 requirements.
• Apply SEO tags and support technical enhancements that improve site performance and user experience.
• Generate monthly analytics and accessibility reports, summarizing insights and actionable recommendations.
• Maintain clear documentation outlining CMS processes, workflows, and accessibility remediation procedures.
• Provide basic guidance to staff on preparing accessible, web‑ready documents.

Minimum Qualifications

• Comprehensive experience remediating web pages and documents for WCAG 2.2 Level AA, ADA, and Section 508 compliance.
• Substantial experience working with content management systems and performing Hypertext Market Language (HTML)/Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) updates.
• Experience using automated accessibility checkers and SEO tools.
• Demonstrated proficiency in quality control, with strong attention to detail and the ability to consistently follow established workflows and standards.
• Experience converting accessible documents using Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe InDesign, and/or desktop publishing systems.

Additional Considerations

• Experience with Drupal and SharePoint.
• Familiarity with automated reporting tools (e.g., Siteimprove).
