Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in waterfront infrastructure and is seeking a civil engineer with structural coursework for our Houston, TX office. You will work with a local and national team on ports, Navy facilities, marinas, and more, contributing to the design of large-scale marine structures.

Responsibilities include structural analysis and detailing of concrete, steel, and timber, plus site visits and coordination with engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with Structural coursework is required.
• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with Structural emphasis is strongly preferred.
• Entry level to 2+ years of experience.
• Prior experience or internship in heavy civil, structural, or marine/waterfront design is strongly preferred.
• Engineer In Training (EIT) certification is preferred.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or a comparable drafting platform.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software such as SAP2000 or a comparable equivalent.
• Pre-employment background check required per NIST 800-171.
• Employment contingent upon legal ability to work in the U.S. and to present documentation at hire.

Responsibilities

• Participates in conceptual development and design of waterfront structural projects across industries.
• Performs structural analysis, design, and detailing of concrete, steel, and timber structures.
• Analyzes static and dynamic loading on marine structures considering soil-structure interaction.
• Develops finite element models of marine structures using SAP2000 or similar.
• Prepares calculations and documents information for completed designs.
• Coordinates and develops structural drawings with engineers and drafters.
• Performs site visits and inspections to evaluate conditions and prepare reports.
• Assists with construction administration including site visits and review of shop drawings, RFIs, submittals.
• Supports quantity takeoffs for construction cost estimating.
• Learns by attending meetings and conference calls with clients and project teams.
