Job summary

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the Utilities Mechanic - Trainee position in the Water & Wastewater Operations Division. This entry-level program provides hands-on work experience, on-the-job training, and opportunities to learn maintenance and repair of water and wastewater systems, lift stations, and related equipment.

Trainees will gain experience through observing, performing, and supporting project tasks while pursuing relevant coursework

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Florida Driver’s License class 'E' or higher required during appointment.
• Preference: currently enrolled in a water or wastewater treatment plant operator certification program.

Responsibilities

• Learn maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of water and wastewater systems, lift stations and related equipment.
• Participate in construction and maintenance of water and wastewater mains, pumping and treatment facilities.
• Assist with operating trucks and equipment and completing daily work orders.
• Support safe operation of tools and equipment used in the field.
• Collaborate with experienced staff to gain knowledge of procedures and standards.
