Job summary

City of Oakland Park seeks an entry-level Utilities Technician Trainee to perform unskilled and routine manual labor in installing, inspecting, and maintaining drainage, water, and sewer systems.

Requires a High School diploma or GED and a Florida Class E driver's license; must obtain division certifications within 6 months. On-call work after hours, holidays and weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED plus 6 months of labor experience.
• Florida Class E Driver’s License.
• Must obtain division-specific certification within 6 months (Water Distribution Level 3; Wastewater Class C; Stormwater FSA 1).
• On-call availability after hours, holidays, and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Assist in installing, inspecting, and maintaining drainage, water, and sewer systems.
• Clean culverts, gutters, swales, storm drains, and canals.
• Assist with locating underground facilities prior to excavation.
• Assist with digging trenches, removing concrete, trimming trees and shrubs.
• Load and unload equipment, supplies, tools, and material.
• May operate heavy machinery or other automotive equipment.
• Maintain inventory usage records and assist with debris removal.
• Work with others under written or verbal instruction and follow safety procedures.
