Role Overview

The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Water-Wastewater Operator II based in Longwood, FL. This role performs routine tasks related to the operation of water and/or wastewater treatment facilities, maintains compliance with EPA standards and state water commissions, and ensures plant safety and sanitation.

What You'll Do
  • Operate and maintain water and wastewater treatment equipment, ensuring compliance with environmental limits.
  • Monitor and sample well and groundwater; adjust treatment levels as needed.
  • Detect and report safety hazards and equipment malfunctions.
  • Perform repairs and coordinate major repairs with outside vendors.
  • Activate pumps and valves; dispose of waste materials properly.
  • Assist in emergency procedures and follow safety protocols.
  • Add chemicals according to formulas; monitor inventory levels.
  • Read meters and gauges; adjust controls; retrieve and review treatment reports.
  • Maintain logs, reports, and records required by regulations.
  • Backwash filters; handle chlorine safely; maintain related equipment.
  • Clean and maintain facilities and grounds.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and safety.
  • Travel between worksites; respond to emergencies; perform inspections.
  • Install and read water meters; communicate with customers.
  • Seek continuous improvement in operations and customer service.
Experience & Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of mechanical experience, including at least 3 years in chemical treatment of water/wastewater or related utility field.
Education & Certification
  • High school diploma.
  • Second-level operator license (may be in process of obtaining third-level license); valid driver’s license required.
Physical & Technical Skills
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting (75 lbs.), walking, climbing, and repairs.
  • Ability to read meters, charts, gauges; maintain accurate records.
  • Effective communication skills; data analysis; mathematical calculations for chemical dosing.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships and operate equipment and technology.
Additional Requirements
  • On-call support; travel within service area; shift work including weekends.
