Job Function/Purpose

The Water/Wastewater Operator is responsible for operation and maintenance of equipment in our water/wastewater treatment facility and potable water distribution system in Fort McDowell, Arizona.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment including valves, pumps, motors, belt presses, disinfection equipment, and vehicles.
• Conduct routine testing, monitoring, and maintenance of wells and treatment processes, including basic laboratory analyses.
• Document treatment processes, equipment maintenance, plant performance, flow, electrical, and chemical usage.
• Respond to call outs and emergencies to repair treatment equipment and instrumentation.
• Maintain facilities cleanliness, security, and provide customer service when needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Willing to work all shifts, including weekends, holidays, evenings, and on-call hours.

Qualifications

• Willingness and aptitude to study for water or wastewater certification prerequisites.
• Knowledge of process control, maintenance procedures, and safety practices.
• Ability to perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on-site.
• Understanding of regulatory rules.
• Previous water or wastewater treatment experience is preferred.
• Completion of related courses is desirable.
• Willing to work all shifts, including weekends, holidays, evenings, and on-call.

Education, Experience, and Skills

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Driver's License; Water/Wastewater Operator's License as per site requirements.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and internet; knowledge of water/wastewater operations.
• Clear and professional communication skills.
• Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently.
• Ability to follow instructions and manage multiple tasks.
• Positive attitude, accountability, and willingness to take additional responsibilities.

Physical Demands

Must frequently lift 50-60 pounds, load/unload equipment, access confined spaces, and walk or climb stairs/ladders.
