Job summary

Harford County is seeking an entry-level Water/Wastewater Facility Mechanic Trainee to learn operation, repair, and maintenance of pumping stations and treatment facilities. The role includes rotating shifts, safety training, and progression to higher mechanic levels with demonstrated performance.

Essential duties include learning to repair pumps, perform preventive maintenance, read gauges, and operate SCADA systems while maintaining records and responding to emergencies.

Qualifications

• Two years experience in water/wastewater or plant operations, including pump and motor maintenance.
• High school diploma or GED; must obtain license within two years.
• Ability to read gauges and logs and perform preventive maintenance.
• Familiarity with SCADA and telemetry systems and basic safety practices.
• Must pass safety and respiratory protection requirements.

Responsibilities

• Learn operation, repair and maintenance of pumps and related equipment.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and keep records.
• Respond to citizen complaints and emergency conditions in home sewer systems.
• Operate chemical addition processes with safety controls.
• Maintain buildings and grounds and assist custodial tasks.
• Read charts and logs; troubleshoot systems via SCADA.
