Job summary

American Water seeks a General Maintenance Worker to perform technical maintenance on water and wastewater systems and assist plant operations as needed. Expect 90% repair/maintenance and 10% operations, with possible overtime and on-call duties.

You will work with pumps, motors, valves and meters, and coordinate with contractors while keeping thorough records and following safety policies. A strong background in field maintenance and safety is essential.

Qualifications

• Operate tools safely and effectively in maintenance tasks.
• Experience with light electrical systems (240 V) and calibration.
• Direct excavation crews for underground repairs as needed.
• Knowledge of water and wastewater processes and systems.
• Familiarity with the National Electrical Code and safety rules.
• Awareness of health and safety regulations and practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on water distribution and wastewater systems.
• Maintain pumps, electrical controls and related equipment.
• Prepare maintenance material orders and coordinate supplies.
• Keep computerized and manual records; report issues.
• Identify and schedule work, coordinate outside contractors as needed.
• Follow Environmental, Health, and Safety policies and wear PPE.
• Assist operations with daily tasks and on-call responsibilities.
