Job summary

The City of Fort Worth is hiring Maintenance Workers to support our 24/7 Field Operations Division—repairing, maintaining, and constructing the infrastructure that delivers clean water and collects wastewater across the city.

This boots-on-the-ground role involves outdoor work, using hand and power tools, and maintenance of mains, hydrants, and valves. The position offers growth potential and a path to a stable career in utilities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain a TCEQ Class I Wastewater Collection or Water Class D license within one year of hire.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call rotation.
  • Ability to pass a physical, drug screening and background check.
  • Preferred: one year of maintenance or construction experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools to repair water/wastewater infrastructure.
  • Open and operate valves on water lines to isolate leaks.
  • Repair leaks or breaks in distribution or collection systems.
  • Assist in operating wastewater collection equipment to clear obstructions.
  • Replace and repair manholes and locate sewer and water lines.
  • Operate light/medium equipment like trucks and tractors in maintenance tasks.
