Job summary

Wharton-Smith, Inc. in Tampa, FL is seeking a Field Engineer - Water/Wastewater to support field operations on our Southeast projects.

You will assist the Superintendent with work plan development, coordinate subcontractor activities, manage RFIs and submittals, and help ensure schedule, quality, and safety compliance. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 0–4 years construction experience, with strong surveying knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or another relevant field.
• 0 to 4 years of construction-related experience.
• Ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen.
• Competent Person certifications in trenching, scaffolding, rigging, confined space, fall protection, OSHA 10-hour, First Aid & CPR, silica, and risk management.
• Knowledge of surveying fundamentals.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Able to work in an active construction jobsite environment and varying weather conditions.
• Willing to travel daily to assigned jobsite(s).

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and assist with facility start-up activities.
• Attend meetings (Sub, progress, and team).
• Maintain logs and files (field, equipment, delivery, concrete tracking, rental tracking).
• Identify need for RFIs and manage RFIs.
• Manage approved submittals for quality control and compliance.
• Maintain as-built drawings (Electronic and Hard Set).
• Material purchasing, expediting, and handling (field purchase orders).
• Maintain material control system for all materials on site.
• Monitor and report productivity.
• Layout (use of survey equipment, batter boards, string lines).
• Understand SWPPP and safety requirements; coordinate with VDC unit.
