Job summary

Wharton-Smith, Inc. seeks a Field Engineer – Water/Wastewater in Tampa, FL. The role supports the Superintendent, coordinating with Subcontractors and Project Engineers to ensure timely, compliant project execution on site.

The successful candidate will assist with work plan development, manage RFIs and submittals, maintain drawings and logs, and participate in safety and QA activities across field operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
• 0–4 years of construction-related experience.
• Ability to communicate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen to receive direction and provide project support.
• Competent Person certifications in trenching, scaffolding, rigging, confined space, fall protection, OSHA 10-Hour, First Aid & CPR, silica, and risk management.
• Knowledge of surveying fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and assist with facility start-up activities
• Attend meetings (Sub, progress, and team)
• Maintain logs and files (field, equipment, delivery, concrete tracking, rental tracking)
• Identify need for Request for Information (RFI) and manage RFIs
• Manage approved submittals for quality control and onsite compliance
• Maintain as-built drawings (Electronic and Hard Set)
• Material purchasing, expediting, and field PO management
• Maintain material control system on site
• Monitor and report productivity
• Layout using survey equipment, batter boards, string lines
• Create spare parts list/inventory for turnover
• Schedule inspections with building departments
• Understand Project Cost Accounting (PCA) budgets
• Assist with QC Management (Pre-pour Checklist, Completion Lists)
• Create and maintain jobsite logs and safety records
• Coordinate Locates and One Call tickets
• Assist with Daily Reports
