Job description

Water/Wastewater Engineer - Shape the Future of Florida's Water

Fort Myers, FL

Design the systems that keep communities running

You're a civil/environmental engineer who wants your work to matter. Here, your designs will directly protect public health, support growth, and make Florida's water and wastewater systems more resilient.

From complex wastewater treatment plants to site civil and stormwater infrastructure, you'll help drive projects that local utilities depend on every single day.

You won't just draft plans. You'll visit sites, see the facilities, and help guide projects from concept through construction.

If you've been executing municipal water or wastewater work and want a bigger technical challenge, we want to talk to you.

What You'll Work On

You'll support a portfolio of municipal water and wastewater projects across Florida, from planning through construction:

  • Municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities
  • Wastewater and water conveyance infrastructure
  • Stormwater infrastructure and drainage systems
  • Permitting packages for treatment and infrastructure projects
  • Alternatives analysis and planning-level studies
  • Construction-phase support and contractor coordination
  • Field activities, site reconnaissance, and pilot testing

You'll also work within local utility codes and permitting processes, bringing projects into alignment with agency requirements and standards. Your core challenge: turn complex regulatory, site, and process constraints into clear, buildable designs that work in the real world.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Helping execute municipal water and wastewater projects for Florida utility clients
  • Supporting design and construction of complex wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects
  • Contributing to project budgets, schedules, contract obligations, and quality standards
  • Performing civil engineering design for water and wastewater treatment facilities and conveyance systems
  • Developing site design components including layout, yard piping, roadways, paving, grading, and stormwater infrastructure
  • Performing conceptual and preliminary design activities, including site visits and overseeing fieldwork
  • Conducting alternatives analyses and preparing planning and design reports
  • Developing civil engineering plans and specifications
  • Preparing cost estimates for water and wastewater projects
  • Preparing technical memoranda, reports, and electronic deliverables
  • Reviewing contractor submittals for conformance with contract plans and specifications
  • Participating in field activities such as pilot testing and site reconnaissance
  • Assisting project managers with permitting submittals for treatment facilities and infrastructure projects
  • Coordinating with various governmental agencies during permitting and review
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering
  • 6 to 12 years of directly relevant civil engineering experience
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer
  • Experience with local utility codes and utility permitting processes
  • Ability to review plans and specifications against local codes
  • Strong application of engineering principles, critical thinking, and analysis
  • Innovative approach to solving engineering challenges
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively with clients and project teams
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
The Experience That Will Really Get Our Attention

You've been in the trenches on water and wastewater treatment or conveyance projects, and you know what it takes to get a site design from concept to bid set to construction support. You're comfortable balancing utility standards, local codes, and real-world site constraints, and you can back it up with clear documentation and communication.

If you've taken projects through permitting in Florida and used modern civil, GIS, and hydrologic tools to tighten your designs and analyses, you'll stand out here.
