Job summary

Tetra Tech in Miami, FL is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern / Early Career Engineer to join our Water/Wastewater team. You will work with experienced engineers on water and wastewater projects from planning through construction support.

The role provides hands-on exposure to design calculations, drawings, specifications, and project delivery while developing technical skills and pursuing FE/EIT certification.

Qualifications

• Currently completing the senior year of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or recently graduated from an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program.
• Academic coursework related to civil engineering, environmental engineering, water resources, hydraulics, hydrology, utilities, or infrastructure design.
• Interest in developing a career in water and wastewater engineering.
• Interest in pursuing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination and Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
• Basic understanding of engineering principles, calculations, and technical problem-solving.
• Exposure to AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, GIS, hydraulic modeling tools, or similar engineering software is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to organize assignments, manage priorities, and meet project deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and design of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Support projects involving treatment facilities, pipelines, conveyance systems, pump stations, utilities, and related civil infrastructure.
• Perform engineering calculations and technical analyses under supervision.
• Prepare drawings, plans, specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
• Develop and review design documents using engineering standards and project requirements.
• Use engineering software to support project calculations, drawings, and deliverables.
• Assist with data collection, field investigations, and evaluation of existing infrastructure.
• Participate in site visits and field assignments to support design and construction.
• Coordinate with engineers, designers, and other disciplines on project tasks.
• Assist with construction-phase activities and field observations.
• Understand applicable design standards, codes, regulations, and industry practices.
