Job summary

Thomas & Hutton in Ladson, SC is seeking an entry-to-mid level civil engineer to design and support municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the Southeast.

You will collaborate with engineers, prepare construction drawings, perform hydraulic analysis, participate in client meetings and site visits, and work toward Engineer-in-Training certification with a PE path strongly preferred, supported by mentoring.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Biosystems Engineering.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain (PE path strongly preferred).
• 2–5 years of experience with municipal water and wastewater clients.
• Experience in planning, design, permitting, and construction administration of infrastructure projects.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D; hydraulic modeling software preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for client interactions.

Responsibilities

• Prepare construction drawings for water and wastewater infrastructure projects including pipelines, treatment facilities, storage tanks, and pump stations.
• Assist with the design and analysis of municipal water and sewer systems.
• Perform hydraulic modeling and system evaluations using tools such as WaterCAD, Innovyze, or similar software.
• Support permitting efforts and coordinate with regulatory agencies.
• Participate in construction administration activities including site visits and coordination with contractors.
• Assist in preparing technical reports, specifications, and project documentation.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Participate in client meetings and presentations.
• Manage project tasks to meet scope, schedule, and quality goals.
