Job summary

American Water Works Association is seeking a seasoned civil engineer to lead planning, scope and budget development for capital improvement projects and developer extensions related to water and wastewater infrastructure. The role involves independent work under supervision, management of consultants, and coordination with multiple departments.

You will handle project management, permitting, reporting, and policy development, with travel to field sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Eight years of progressive civil engineering experience in public works CIP design, permitting and construction.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam; surveying preferred.
• Current Washington State Professional Civil Engineering License is preferred.
• Ability to travel to job sites as needed; valid WA driver’s license may be required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare studies, designs, specifications, and cost estimates for CIP and Developer Extensions for water and wastewater infrastructure.
• Manage consultants on project design and provide construction support.
• Monitor project scope, schedule, budget, and reporting; prepare status updates.
• Coordinate with Maintenance & Operations to ensure long-term ownership and maintenance requirements.
• Develop and update engineering standards and policies; participate in policy decisions.
• Prepare Board reports and assist in planning and budgeting for CIP.
• Coordinate outside agency projects and ensure compliance with regulations.
