Job summary

The City of Richmond’s Department of Public Utilities Water Distribution Division is hiring an entry-level Utilities Field Specialist for the day shift (7:00 am - 3:30 pm). You will maintain and repair the City’s water distribution system, respond to leaks, and support emergency responses.

The role requires CDL, physical readiness, and willingness to work rotating weekends and holidays. Selected candidates will handle installing services, meters, and hydrants, operate heavy equipment, and read

Qualifications

• Demonstrated skill using hand tools such as shovels and wrenches.
• Demonstrated skill operating heavy equipment and power tools.
• Must be able to communicate orally and in writing; CDL required.

Responsibilities

• Install and repair water service hydrants, meters, and valves.
• Operate heavy equipment and trucks to support water distribution work.
• Read and follow maps, plans, and diagrams for construction and repairs.
• Follow safety procedures and SOPs at all times.
• Be available for emergency, on-call, weekends and holidays as needed.
