Job summary

The City of Gallatin is seeking a Water Treatment Plant Supervisor to manage daily operations, supervise plant staff, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and prepare operational and discharge reports.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in chemistry or environmental science with 3–5 years' relevant experience and a Tennessee Grade IV Water Treatment Plant Operator certificate, plus a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, environmental science, or related field with 3–5 years recent work experience in operating and maintaining a water treatment plant.
• Must possess a Grade IV Water Treatment Plant Operator certificate issued by the State of Tennessee and maintain it throughout employment.
• Must have a valid, appropriate driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Organizes, supervises, and participates in the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant; prepares technical reports, records and files.
• Oversees and schedules the work of water treatment plant personnel.
• Provides for the training of plant operators with regard to equipment operation and maintenance, safety precautions and procedures, and observes performance and learning progress.
• Monitors and inspects the operation of plant and peripheral facilities and equipment.
• Responds to and coordinates the response to emergencies involving the water treatment plant or advises shift operator in the remedy of such situations.
• Assists in the development and enforces plant safety and operating rules and procedures.
• Prepares and reviews monthly operational reports and discharge monitoring reports to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations, and submits reports to regulatory agencies.
• Prepares technical reports on plant operations for submission to state authorities.
• Examines laboratory equipment and instruments and makes minor repairs and adjustments.
• Conducts more complicated chemical and physical tests.
• Performs maintenance and minor repair in plant equipment and maintains records on same.
• May be required to work overtime and/or be on call, and be able to respond to emergencies within a reasonable time.
• Performs related tasks as required.
