Job summary

City of Sidney, Ohio seeks an experienced Water Treatment Plant Assistant Superintendent to support the operation and maintenance of a Class IV water treatment facility. The role includes assisting with regulatory compliance, source water operations, water storage towers, lime lagoons, and related infrastructure to ensure safe, reliable potable water delivery to the community.

The position requires readiness to serve as acting plant supervisor when needed and to respond promptly to emergency

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; additional coursework in water treatment or related fields preferred.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in a Class III or higher water treatment facility; conventional surface-water experience preferred.
• Must hold Ohio Class III Water Supply Operator certificate; ability to obtain Class IV within five years of appointment.
• Maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Residency in Shelby County or adjacent county within 12 months of hire.

Job description

General Description

The Water Treatment Plant Assistant Superintendent reports to the Water Treatment Plant Superintendent and assists with the City’s Class IV Water Treatment Plant, source water operations, water storage towers, lime lagoons, and related infrastructure, including the operation, maintenance, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of all components of the water treatment system. The Assistant Superintendent helps ensure the delivery of adequate quantities of clean, safe, and reliable potable water to the community and serves as the acting plant supervisor when assigned or when the Superintendent is unavailable.

As a public employee, this position is responsible for supporting the reliable delivery of utility services. The position requires consistent and prompt response to emergency repairs occurring outside normal working hours, including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications/Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Additional education or coursework in water treatment, chemistry, environmental science, engineering technology, maintenance, supervision, or a related field is preferred.
• A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in a Class III or higher water treatment facility. Experience in a conventional surface-water treatment facility is preferred.
• Possession of a valid Ohio Class III Water Supply Operator certificate with the ability to obtain the required Ohio Class IV Water Supply Operator certificate within five years of appointment.
• Maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license and an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
• Maintain residency in Shelby County or an adjacent county within 12 months of hire.
