Job summary

The City of Kenton is seeking an Assistant Water Plant Operator to maintain and operate the water system. You will operate the plant on assigned shifts, collect and analyze water samples according to Ohio EPA specifications, and monitor the plant, wells and water tower.

You will maintain records, prepare daily reports, keep the work area clean, assist in minor maintenance, and work cooperatively with staff and other city departments.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic math and water treatment plant operations.
• Possession and maintenance of a valid Ohio driver’s license and maintaining insurability with the City’s liability policy.
• Preferred or required to pass State Certification within three years of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operate the plant on assigned shift ensuring treatment processes operate as expected.
• Collect and analyze water samples per Ohio EPA specifications.
• Monitor the plant, wells and water tower and investigate issues as they arise.
• Maintain plant records and prepare daily operation reports.
• Keep work area clean and assist in minor maintenance on equipment.
• Maintain grounds of the water treatment plant, well fields and water tower.
• Work cooperatively with co-workers, supervisors and other city departments.
• Must arrive on time and maintain reliable attendance; available for 1st or 2nd shift; plant operates 16 hours daily, 7 days a week.
• Perform all other duties assigned by Supervisor.

• Operates the plant on assigned shift ensuring that all aspects of the treatment process are operating as expected.
• Collects and analyzes water samples according to Ohio EPA specifications and makes observations at various locations through treatment process.
• Monitors the plant, wells and water tower and act to investigate issues that may arise.
• Maintain plant records and prepare daily reports on plant operations.
• Responsible for keeping work area clean.
• Assist in minor maintenance on machines or equipment.
• Maintain building and grounds of the water treatment plant, well fields and water tower as directed.
• Works cooperatively with co-workers, supervisors and other city departments.
• Must arrive at work on time and maintain reliable attendance.
• Must be available to work on both shifts 1st or 2nd, the water treatment plant is a 16 hour a day facility, 7 days a week.
• All other duties assigned by Supervisor

Qualifications for Assistant Water Plant Operator:

• Preferred a State of Ohio Class I or II Water Supply Operator’s CertificateORrequired to successfully pass a State Examination for certification as a Class I Treatment Plant Operator within three (3) years of employment.
• Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license and the maintenance of insurability with the City’s general liability policy.
