Job summary

The City of Kings Mountain is hiring a Water Treatment Plant Operator to monitor and control potable water production. You will operate pumps, SCADA systems, collect samples, perform routine lab tests, and ensure regulatory compliance.

The role may involve rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays. You will maintain accurate records, respond to alarms, assist with maintenance, and pursue North Carolina certifications as required or preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in water treatment plant operations is desirable but not required.
• On-the-job training is available to the successful candidate.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor pumps, motors, filters, clarifiers, chemical feed systems, valves, tanks, generators, and other water treatment equipment.
• Operate and monitor SCADA and electronic control systems and record data, laboratory results, chemical usage, and other information.
• Collect water samples and perform routine chemical and physical laboratory tests to monitor water quality.
• Monitor treatment processes and adjust chemical feed rates, pumps, valves, and filters to maintain safe operation.
• Perform backwashing and monitor turbidity, chlorine, and other water-quality parameters.
• Identify and troubleshoot equipment/process issues and perform routine maintenance.
• Inspect facilities and respond to alarms, failures, emergencies, and changing conditions.
• Maintain inventories of chemicals and materials and handle chemicals safely.
• Perform general maintenance and keep accurate records and reports.
• Follow regulations, procedures, safety standards, and PPE requirements.
